Doug began drawing and painting as a teenager, selling his first painting at the age of 14. As interests changed in teen years, he strayed from painting, but not from drawing, while spending time in college and the Marine Corps. At the age of 24, Deborah then his wifetobe, encouraged Doug to paint again. A selftaught artist, Doug worked at his painting for 10 more years while pursuing a career in pharmaceutical sales before leaving to open his own gallery in Greenville, SC. A native of New Jersey, born in 1947, Doug lived there through the age of 18. Since choosing South Carolina as his home in 1975, he has exhibited in numerous group and oneman shows, receiving award recognition for his work and his paintings are in many private and corporate collections. Dougs prints are represented by a network of selected galleries. Originals paintings are available through only a few galleries. His paintings with attention to detail, light and texture capture a feeling, and give life to his subjects. I try to paint a feeling or a mood, through light, shadow and texture, not just a picture. If I can give someone a moment of escape from the everyday world through a painting, then weve shared something, and thats important. Doug resides on Edisto Island, South Carolina with his wife Deborah.
