Born in 1952, carver, artist Nick Knuit grew up in the peaceful St. John River Valley in New Brunswick. With the valleys abundant wildlife, Knuit began nature carving at age 15 in various types of wood. Over the following 30 years he has refined his carving and is especially known for the detail of his work. Using various mediums of wood, stone and moose antler, he has focused on the latter, it being harder, grainless and more receptive to fine detail. Knuit studies the natural flow of the antlers to interpret the carving most suited to a given piece. Living now in the BC Interior, he enjoys the action and power of the wildlife in the Rockies as he translates them to moose antlers. Although he does other carving such as a detailed oriental chess set of moose antler, his greatest pleasure is in carving wildlife. His pieces are in Canada, Britain, U.S., Germany, Switzerland and Holland.
