Early in my life, I developed a fascination with birds and their migration patterns. This interest and my innate creativity led me to start carving birds over 20 years ago. It was a hobby that I never relinquished. In 1990, I learned the process of making molds and reproducing my original woodcarvings. Richard Lamson Studio was founded—and that has allowed me to make my love, my livelihood to this day. My bird carvings began with backyard birds and grew to include 30 different species of North American birds. Over the years, my designs broadened to include a variety of songbirdthemed home and garden accents. Through my love of birdwatching, I developed an awareness and appreciation of nature as a whole. I realized a personal sense of calm and empowerment as I acknowledged the perfection, the patterns and the rhythms found in nature. From these observations, experiences and my study of the ancient Chinese philosophy of Taoism—has evolved my newest creation: Moon Moth Designs. It’s “Gifts for SelfEmpowerment … Inspired by Nature.” My creativity now has two focuses: my songbirds and Moon Moth Designs. I will continue to design new songbird works, although that line is produced and distributed exclusively through Wild Wings, Inc. My energy and focus on my Moon Moth Designs pieces includes production and distribution.
