Even in my lifetime computers have moved from glorified calculators to powerful machines, which invade every corner of our life. From machines like washing machines to nuclear power stations, all controlled by the ever more powerful silicon chip. I see similarities between the advances in technology and Darwins theories. Darwin believed that only the fittest survive and you have to change to fit your environment. Mainly changes happen very slowly...but...a Worldchanging event can result in a massive leap in evolutionary terms in a very short period I see computers as a Worldchanging event In 2006 computers still cannot compete with the human mind. However, the human body has already been outdated. Robotics can out perform nearly every human action. To me, combining human with robotics can solve the obvious evolutionary flaws in the human body. Like computers the human body could have simple plugin upgrades. However, I believe the human consciousness or mind is not replicated by a series of 1 & 0s it is more likely to be nonalgorithmic in nature. The human brain is not really quite like a computer, but it is more like a computer which is continually changing, by Roger Penrose The Emperors New Mind
